3rd Dereham (St Nicholas) Guides is part of the worldwide guiding movement, enabling girls and young women to fulfil their potential to take an active and responsible role in society. A grant of £783 will allow the group to purchase a range of additional camping equipment and enable them to attend the NORJAM (Norfolk Jamboree) event at the Norfolk showground. This event, which takes place every four years, brings together Scouts and Guides from all around the world to have fun, make new friends and share experiences.
Cruse Bereavement Care Norwich offers support and counselling services for people who have been recently bereaved. Cruse runs a telephone help and information line which is staffed by trained volunteers. The helpline is open on three mornings and one evening per week. A grant of £3,136 will support the group’s rental and telephone/internet costs of this service for one year. It is estimated that over 700 enquiries from both children and adults will be handled during this year.
Dr W E Ripper Memorial Hall is the village hall for the parish of Docking in West Norfolk. Grants totalling £4,840 from two Foundation funds will enable the hall to purchase new laptop computers and software, plus a projector. The hall provides IT classes for people of all ages with support from a tutor from the College of West Anglia. The hall is also a designated Community Information Point offering facilities for people to view planning applications use the internet and pay bills online. Community projects such as digitising documents and photographs to build a local archive are also planned.
Hopton on Sea Youth Club provides activities for young people aged 11 to 18 in this village south of Great Yarmouth. A small grant of £467 will help purchase a range of sports equipment so that the club can provide outdoor sports opportunities over the summer months. The equipment will help to keep the club going while its current village hall venue is being rebuilt. The equipment will continue to be used in future years for summer outdoor activities. The group has a membership of over 100 with a waiting list of over 30.
King's Lynn Conquerors organises five-a-side football tournaments for adults with learning difficulties. A grant of £2,540 will enable a series of five-a-side tournaments to be offered benefitting up to 100 people from various day centres in West Norfolk. The project will offer a sense of achievement and self worth, as well as social opportunities. Research has shown that this client group often has high levels of obesity and poor fitness, which is also addressed through participation in this project. Adults with learning difficulties are represented on the management committee, and are actively involved in all planning and decision making.
The Oak Grove Trust is a registered charity providingcommunity based events in the Catton Grove area of Norwich. The Oak Grove Trust has worked in the Catton Grove area for the past 75 years and offers a broad programme of community work mainly aimed at children and young people. A grant of £5,000 will contribute towards the costs of a Children and Families Support Worker to deliver projects including after school and holiday clubs that will benefit around 500 people. The worker also oversees the "Kidz Council" which is the forum for involving young people in the planning of future services.
Southrepps Parish Council provides local government in this North Norfolk village. A grant of £5,000 will assist the Parish council in its plans to replace existing play equipment on the recreation ground for use by children 5-14 years of age. The work will complement improvements already made to the toddlers’ play area.
