Subs for Clubs aims to help young people most affected by the cost-of-living rises to continue to participate in out-of-school activities like sport, art, and uniformed activities.
We know how important these opportunities are in building self-esteem and resilience, and how they can help build friendships and develop skills for life.
Grants are available to Clubs, Groups and Units to help subsidise young people’s costs.
Applications can be made by voluntary organisations on behalf of a young person/s.
What is this Fund all about?
- The purpose of this grant is to ensure children and young people experiencing financial insecurity continue to enjoy and participate in out of school clubs and groups.
- This grant scheme will operate as a rolling fund programme until all funds have been allocated.
- There is a total of £20,000 available in the fund. Groups can apply for a maximum of £1,000 with a guide of approximately £100 maximum per young person.
- Both the group and the young people must be based in Norfolk.
- Groups in deprived areas and/or groups supporting households who are experiencing financial difficulties may apply.
What can funding be used for:
Funding can be used to cover the costs directly incurred by young people participating in established uniformed groups, sports, or arts opportunities, including:
- Subs – the subscription or membership fee to take part on a regular basis, often paid weekly, monthly, termly, or annually.
- Travel – costs incurred by the young person getting to/from activities.
- Uniform / kit – any item that could not be paid for otherwise.
- The young people must be living in Norfolk. To ensure that grants are awarded fairly, you will be asked to confirm how many young members need financial support.
- Grants must be used to benefit those who are under the age of 18 – or under the age of 25 if they have special educational needs or a disability.
Unfortunately, there are a few things that can’t be funded.
- Young people cannot apply on their own, applications must be made by the voluntary organisation.
- Anything that wouldn’t usually be directly incurred by a young person cannot be funded, such as general equipment, or the group’s energy bills, or overheads.
- The creation or continuation of a general hardship fund. The expectation is that young people who would benefit from financial support through ‘Subs for Clubs’ will have already been identified by their group.
- Activities, trips, camps and events over and above the regular subscription / membership.
- Costs related to young people’s volunteer expenses, such as training and qualifications.
- Funding can not be used to reimburse families for payments already made.
- Funding cannot be used to pay for holiday playschemes or any form of childcare.
- Groups that are not already established in Norfolk.
Who can apply?
- Any Norfolk based unit, club or group who requires financial assistance for subscriptions.
- Applications must be made directly by the club delivering the activity and cannot be made by a third party organisation.
- Applications can only be submitted by a voluntary group, parent/carers cannot apply. If you are a parent/guardian and you feel your child would benefit from a grant, please contact their club/ group/ unit, and request they apply on your behalf.
- Each group can submit only one application.
- You can apply for this grant even if you have been in receipt of other grants if financial support is still needed. Where a group already has access to a hardship fund, for instance through a national governing/ sporting body, there is an expectation that this route is investigated in the first instance.
- Schools are not eligible to apply.

This is a rolling grant. Applications are considered on a rolling basis, and the Fund will close when fully allocated.
