“‘A’ is an energetic boy, but Mum couldn’t cope due to her poor mental health and financial difficulties. Home-Start Norfolk introduced a volunteer and she and Mum built a brilliant relationship. The volunteer taught Mum strategies to cope with her anxiety about leaving the house. Daily walks helped their wellbeing, providing ‘A’ with learning opportunities and improving his physical development and challenging behaviour.”

“We’re so glad we started going to Nansa after having Ava and realising things weren’t quite right. Some days she can be very unsettled but being at Nansa she’s so relaxed and it’s nice for me to learn stuff to do with her at home. We get a lot of help and support.”

“If we want to break the cycle of poverty and all that it brings, we must invest in supporting our most vulnerable families in Norfolk. Trusted community groups and local charities are making a real difference here but they need more funding and support.”

Did you know…

There are an estimated 30,000 children living in low-income families in Norfolk, which can have long term impacts on their health, attainment and aspirations. Many of these children growing up in poverty live in a family where at least one person works. With statutory services continuing to shrink, community provision is increasingly called upon to fill the gaps.

What’s the solution?

We believe that a child’s wellbeing is linked to the strength of their family and the community that surrounds them. We look at the big picture, ensuring that families have the resources, guidance, and opportunities they need to thrive at every stage of their children’s development – from conception through to adulthood.

How are we helping?

Investing in communities is crucial because strong, connected communities create the foundations for better childhoods. We’re doing this by supporting projects that are:

  • Supporting parents and carers to help provide stable, nurturing environments.
  • Mitigating the impact of poverty, ensuring children are ready to learn.
  • Creating opportunities right on people’s doorsteps, including children with special educational needs or those who are young carers.
  • Providing access to sporting, outdoor opportunities and hobbies to children that would not ordinarily be available.
