“It’s very reassuring having a sanctuary like this in the city centre, a place open to all to learn, share and connect with the beauty and productivity of nature.”

Three children stand in front of a table of fresh produce, including carrots, fruit, flowers and vegetables.

“The kids are getting a lot out of it. We are learning about the need to plant in the right place and also about vegetables we would enjoy best.”

“Being outside in a friendly supportive environment has greatly helped my mental health and self-esteem.”

Did you know…

The climate crisis presents real threats to communities in Norfolk. Threats that communities face include:

  • The impacts of the climate crisis itself, such as flooding and heatwaves.
  • The impacts on the local economy in terms of jobs and agriculture.
  • The impacts on nature, including the loss of greenspaces, diverse habitats, and declining species and biodiversity.

What’s the solution?

Managed well, the transition to net-zero offers the opportunity to reshape local areas in a way that improves health and wellbeing, tackles inequalities and improves quality of life. By supporting sustainable community initiatives, we can lay the groundwork for more environmentally conscious and resilient communities, capable of adapting to future environmental challenges.

How are we helping?

By supporting sustainable community initiatives, the Greening our Communities programme brings a global problem down to scale, creating lasting positive impacts on the Norfolk environment and improving people’s quality of life. We’re doing this by supporting projects that are:

  • Helping local communities grow organic fruit and vegetables.
  • Cutting carbon through increasing energy efficiency.
  • Creating green spaces on your doorstep.
  • Delivering nature and conservation sessions to combat isolation and mental ill health.
