Kiln Cliffs: Supporting Young Aspirations

How a family business became a driving force for positive change

The day of our visit to Kiln Cliffs Caravan Park was misty and atmospheric. We were met by owner Graeme, who welcomed us with a friendly smile, and a story that started in the 1920s. His family has owned and operated Kiln Cliffs since the late 1940s. From his grandfather, who first holidayed here in the 1920s and eventually bought the land to Graeme himself, who joined the family business in 1987 and never left, Kiln Cliffs has been a part of Mundesley.

Today, though, it’s more than just a beautiful place for holidays.

Through the Kiln Cliffs Nurture Fund, they are giving back to the community that has supported them over all these years, focusing specifically on young people. The Fund helps them turn aspiration into action by providing small grants to help unlock new skills, gain meaningful experiences, and, in some cases, even jumpstart their own enterprises. Kiln Cliffs portions part of the park’s annual profits to fuel this fund, a commitment to the next generation of Mundesley.

Sitting atop the cliffs on the memorial benches, which were placed in honour of two former employees, it is clear how important Mundesley is to the success of the business. They feel it’s only right that Kiln Cliffs shares its success, providing support to local people, offering jobs, and contributing to the area’s ongoing vitality. The idea of the Nurture Fund is to empower local young people with untapped potential but who lack the resources to bring a desire to life. It’s about finding young people who are “under the radar” and giving them the opportunity to thrive.

Case Study: The Young Baler

A perfect example of the Nurture Fund’s impact came up during a conversation with Corrie, who manages the fund at the Foundation. She shared the story of a young person who received a £500 grant from Kiln Cliffs’ fund that allowed him to purchase a baler. With the baler, he was able to work independently, using his tractor to produce bales for local farms. To date, he’s created over 2,000 bales—an accomplishment that wouldn’t have been possible without the fund’s support. This small investment has enabled him to generate his own income, build a foundation for his future, and gain skills that could serve him well in his career.
